Away to Ashton Boys

22 January 2006

A Team

The team lined up in the normal formation. We kicked-off and took the game to Ashton from start to finish. It was a game which every player gave me and Gavin 100%. We produced several early chances with the Duke going just wide a couple of times, every time they attacked our goal they came upon Brandon who was in no mood to let them get one over us with outstanding saves which both sets of parents applauded. We came off at half-time and we just said to the boys just keep it going we can’t ask for any more from you.

In the second period our midfield totally took control and we missed a few more good chances, but one lapse in defence left Brandon exposed one on one. He rushed out and tried to shut it out but unfortunately they scored to make it 1-0.  We got straight back at them but we did not manage to break them down finishing 1-0. After the game all the parents clapped the boys off the pitch because they worked so hard and gave Ashton a real game.

B Team

The team lined up as last week, and once again we went straight at Ashton from the start. We controlled again but this time scoring through the Birdman to make it 1-0. We kept the pressure on them with good work from our midfield and came off at half-time 1-0 up. Myself and my sidekick Gizmo just asked for more of the same in second half. We started the second half in the same way as the first but went to 1-1 and just lost our shape and self belief after going 2-1 down. We tried all out attacking with Brandon long kick but just couldn’t keep the tempo going and even with Brandon carrying on his fine form from the first game and the rest of the team working hard, we lost 5-1 but still it was an outstanding performance from all the players.
